NAF D -Itch

A reaction to the Cullicoides midge is a common summer problem.

Skin irritation in the horse is, unfortunately, all too common. Often seen as a recurrent seasonal problem in spring and summer, incidences all year round are on the increase. Most usually it is seen as a reaction to the Cullicoides midge bite; although a range of other triggers have also been cited. The symptoms include an intensely irritating itchy skin, hairloss, and bleeding in severe cases. Management techniques, such as regularly applying fly sprays or gel, stabling during the worst periods and using fly sheets will all help. Veterinary approaches are limited to steroid injections which will help but are not encouraged for long term use, and are not safe to compete on. Increasingly, nutritional answers are being sort. Natural anti-oxidants act as free radical scavengers, thus removing unwanted particles found naturally within the system which vastly increase in number where any upset occurs. D-Itch is rich in natural anti-oxidants, such as hawthorn and ginger, and is recommended if the animal has a history of skin irritations, and when the symptoms are seen.

NAFF OESTRESS

Hormonal imbalances can cause mood swings, hypersensitivity and poor performance

It should always be remembered that mares are 'entire' horses, and as such can be prone to hormonal imbalances. These can be seen in a variety of ways, including poor perfomance, reduced movement, hypersensitivity to being touched and becoming cold-backed. However, the most common problem is mood swings when even the sweetest mare can become unpredictable and aggressive. These problems can be addressed with hormonal additives but many are far from ideal and are not suitable for long term use, creating a need for nutritional approaches. In the wild the mare could supplement her own diet with herbs specific for her needs, but this is not possible with modern pasture. Oestress contains a range of natural materials providing anti-oxidants: glutathione, vitamins and minerals, carotenoids, bioflavanoids and trace elements chosen to support hormone regulation. Oestress contains a combination of natural ingredients specifically chosen to help combat 'marish' behaviour.

NAF Pink Powder

A concentrated feed balancer containing naturally occurring yeasts, probiotics and proteins which are essential for correct utilisation of feed. Whenever horses become anxious or over excited the natural microbial balance in the large intestine is disrupted and the beneficial bacteria are crowded out by the harmful micro-organisms. Pink Powder helps the horse maintain its appetite and a natural gut balance. Feed when the horse is exposed to an upset in its routine and/or environment. Ideal for horses prone to excitability, loss of appetite or anxiety.

Stress situations, anti-biotic treatment and illness are often responsible for a lowering of performance due to gastro-intestinal disturbance

The stresses of prolonged travelling, changes of stabling and changes in feeds are well known for having debilitating effects on the equine digestive system. These stress situations are often responsible for a lowering of performance due to gastro-intestinal disturbance. Additionally, injury, pregnancy and anti-biotic treatment have a detrimental effect on the micro-organisms in the intestinal tract, which are responsible for the breakdown of ingested food, which in turn is assimilated and used by the repair mechanisms and to provide energy. The more efficiently the food is broken down, the more efficient the repair mechanisms and the greater the energy output. The quaint name of N.A.F. Pink Powder might belie the fact that this product is one of the most advanced nutritional preparations available today for use with sport horses. It's unique and complex composition has been painstakingly researched and it's administration, at the recommended dosages, is intended to help maintain and optimise gastro-intestinal metabolism, and to 'kick-start' the digestive system after trauma. (e.g. after long periods of travel, post anti-biotic treatment, etc.) N.A.F. Pink Powder can be used on all classes of horses, and for a variety of reasons, from foals to animals of advancing age.

Hoof & Hide (NAF)

NAFF Hoof & Hide - 700g

An optimal hoof structure results in prolonged shoe adhesion.

Multiple splits and cracking around the bottom of the hoof wall are a common problem, and are caused by poor hoof structure. This poor quality can provoke contracted heels, causing the frog to lose it's flexibility and the ability to pump blood throughout the rest of the hoof, degrading the condition even further. The hoof then loses it's elasticity and is then incapable of holding shoes for any length of time. Regular care and attention by a good, competent farrier is essential to maintain hooves in good, sound condition, but even when this is the case, many suffer from poor quality horn and dry, brittle feet. In recent years, more attention has been given to the effect of equine dietary needs in relation to the quality of hoof and it's growth rate. Growth of the hoof requires certain nutrients, including sulphur, zinc, methionine, biotin and cystine. The stabled horse's diet is liable to be deficient in one or more of these nutrients, particularly if the hay is not of good quality and/or the horse's access to grazing is limited. Or, indeed, it may be that the essential nutrients are not presented in the correct, bio-assimilative form, and consequently inefficiently used by the horse. N.A.F. Hoof & Hide, contains a broad spectrum of the nutrients currently considered to be vital in hoof growth and quality. Bio-available organic sulphur is of particular importance to keratins, from which the hoof is composed, as it is one of the key nutritional elements involved in di-sulphide linkage (cross-bonding) of the hoof. An optimal hoof structure results in prolonged shoe adhesion. Information from consumer trials conducted in 1993 showed that N.A.F. Hoof & Hide was effective in 85% of the cases in question.
